Cannabis in Stuttgart — legal, safe & well informed.
Since 1 April 2024, private cannabis use has been permitted in Germany under clear rules. Here you'll find easy-to-understand, reliable information on the current legal situation in Stuttgart and Baden-Württemberg — plus places to get counselling and connect with the community.
What is allowed in Stuttgart?
The Cannabis Act (CanG) regulates cannabis for adults nationwide. Baden-Württemberg and the city of Stuttgart apply these rules locally. Here are the key points at a glance.
Possession
Adults may possess up to 25 g of cannabis in public spaces and up to 50 g in private.
Home growing
Up to 3 cannabis plants may be grown at home for personal use — kept safely out of the reach of minors.
Social Clubs
Cultivation associations (Cannabis Social Clubs) may grow collectively and pass cannabis to members — on a non-commercial basis.
Limits & consumption rules
Legal doesn't mean anywhere and for anyone. These rules protect you from fines and protect others from unwanted exposure.
Outdoor use — keep your distance
Allowed, but not within 100 m of schools, daycare centres, playgrounds and sports facilities.
Not in pedestrian zones during the day
Consumption in pedestrian zones is prohibited between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Violations can be treated as an administrative offence.
No selling & no passing on
Trading cannabis remains illegal. Supply happens only through licensed cultivation associations to their members.
No driving under the influence
A THC limit applies to driving. It's best not to drive at all after use — you risk fines, points and a driving ban.
Adults 18+ only
Passing cannabis to minors is a criminal offence. Reduced quantity and THC limits apply to people aged 18–21.
